Edmonton kicked off Environment Week on Tuesday with the installation of two new solar-powered benches in Churchill Square and at the Muttart Conservatory.
The benches allow passersby to charge a phone or any device that uses a USB plug. And not just when it’s sunny. A battery in the bench can hold the sun’s energy even after a week of clouds and rain. It’s meant to raise awareness of the benefits of solar energy, giving Edmonton residents a simple way to experience the technology.
