The IFME Board meeting recently met in Kiruna, Sweden, site of the Worlds largest iron ore mine. The meeting was a great success and kindly hosted by SKT (Sweden) with support from NKF (Norway).
Important items and actions on our Agenda that were discussed included:
- Welcome of new delegates from China and new observers from Slovakia and the Czech Republic joining over 20 IFME member countries
- Reports from our sub-committees on: finance, membership, technical, leadership, asset management & communications
- Discussion on the way forward for competency standards in public works
- Very successful strategic planning workshop which will be now collated and reported back to the ExCo and Board
- Interest will be sought from member associations to participate in a new IFME global mentoring program
- Review of the IFME Business and Action Plan
- Discussion on ways froward with assisting UN Sustainable Development Goals
- History of IFME was tabled and will be further considered and refined; IFME was established over 60 years ago
- Board meeting evaluation from Ottawa
- Details of upcoming IFME Board meetings and conferences.

An inspection was undertaken of the Kiruna Iron Ore mine, the world's largest, which is requiring the relocation of the City over the coming 20 years. See this and other presentations below.
