Membership Categories 

IFME treasures diversity in its membership base.

Membership may be granted by the General Board of Directors of IFME (GBoD), as set forth in following articles, in the following categories:

  1. National Membership, attainable by National Societies of Municipal Engineers;

  2. Associate Membership, attainable by Municipalities, Local Governments, National and International Organisations, and any other subject approved by IFME;

  3. Individual Membership, attainable by Municipal Engineers and/or Engineers and/or other Professionals involved with Municipal Engineering;

  4. Honorary Membership, granted to any other eligible subject selected by IFME;

  5. Observer Status Membership, granted to Eligible subjects considering joining IFME.

1. National Membership 

National Membership may be granted to National Societies satisfying the following conditions:

  • They represent Municipal Engineers and/or other professions which are associated with Municipal Engineering and Public Works and the members of which are predominantly employed or appointed by Local Government and Organisations involved with Public Works;

  • They share similar objectives with the IFME.

The following rules apply:

  • National Membership shall be granted by the GBoD as set forth in following articles

  • The duration of a National Membership is indefinite, on condition that the annual fee (determined each year by the GBoD) is paid in a timely manner

  • National Membership may be withdrawn by the GBoD for ethical or disciplinary reasons

  • A National Member holds voting rights as set forth in articles below

  • A National Member shall be responsible for electing its Representative’s with IFME

  • Municipal Engineers in any one country shall normally be represented in IFME by only one National Society. The GBoD shall rule on applications for membership on the part of additional National Societies of Municipal Engineers and/or other professions which are associated with Municipal Engineering and the members of which are predominantly employed or appointed by Local Government and Organisations involved with Public Works.

2. Associate Membership

Associate Membership may be granted to Municipalities, Local Governments, National and International Organisations, and any other subjects approved by IFME, which share objectives with IFME.

The following rules apply :

  • Associate Membership shall be granted by the GBoD, and as set forth in following articles

  • The duration of an Associate Membership is indefinite, on condition that the annual fee (determined each year by the GBoD) is paid in a timely manner

  • An Associate Membership may be withdrawn by the GBoD for ethical or disciplinary reasons

  • An Associate Member shall be responsible for electing its Representative/s with IFME

  • Attendance at meetings and voting rights of Associated Members shall be determined by the GBoD, as set forth in articles below.

3. Individual Membership 

Individual Membership may be granted to Municipal Engineers and/or Engineers and/or other Professionals involved with Municipal Engineering.

The following rules apply:

  • Individual Membership shall be granted by the GBoD as set forth in articles below
  • The duration of an Individual Membership is indefinite, on condition that the annual fee (determined each year by the GBoD) is paid in a timely manner
  • An Individual Membership may be withdrawn by the GBoD for ethical or disciplinary reasons
  • Attendance to meetings and voting rights of Individual Members shall be determined by the GBoD as set forth in articles below.

4. Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership may be granted to any other subject reputed eligible by IFME.

The following rules apply:

  • Honorary Membership shall be granted by the GBoD as set forth in articles below
  • The duration of a Honorary Membership shall be determined by the GBoD
  • An Honorary Membership may be withdrawn by the GBoD for ethical or disciplinary reasons
  • Attendance to meetings and voting rights of Honorary Members shall be determined by the GBoD.

5. Observer Status Membership

Observer Status Membership may be granted to eligible prospective Members which are considering joining the IFME.

The following rules apply:

  • Observer Status Membership shall be granted by the GBoD as set forth in articles below
  • The duration of an Observer Status Membership shall be determined by the GBoD
  • An Observer Status Membership may be withdrawn by the GBoD for ethical or disciplinary reasons
  • Observer Status Members shall have attendance rights but no voting rights.
